The North Cleveland Worship choir will be beginning our fall season soon, and we would love for you to be a part.
You may be asking, why should I sing in the choir?
Here are ten reasons why:
1) A PLACE TO BELONG: Group singing helps forge social bonds, and it does so particularly quickly, acting as a powerful icebreaker. People feel valued and inevitably make friends with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
2) HEALTHY HEART: Singing improves your cardiovascular function. Singing makes you have a slower breath rhythm, this has a biological calming effect, and it is beneficial for your heart.
3) LESS STRESS: Singing reduces your stress levels and prevents depression. Different studies point out that singing benefits your mental health, and singing in a group increases your oxytocin levels, which helps you control stress and anxiety.
4) SLEEP BETTER: It helps you to stop snoring. When you sing, you make the muscles located in your throat work, which can help you to reduce snoring at night.
5) SOCIAL LIFE: Singing improves your social life. Just like practicing team sports, it helps you meet people with interests in common, which will help you create social and affective links with the members of your choir.
6) BE UPLIFTED: Every day, we hear bad news: tragedy, terrorism, scandal, etc. While singing in a choir doesn't make those things go away, it's the perfect way to bring something positive and uplifting. We gather to focus on who God is and what He has done, which centers us back in his goodness.
7) STAY YOUNG: Singing keeps your brain young. By learning the lyrics and melodies that you sing in the choir, you are forcing your mind to work extra and exercising your memory skills.
8) LONGER LIFE: Singing can increase your life expectancy. Yes, just like you read it! It sounds too good to be accurate, but Harvard and Yale's Universities published a study in 2008 that demonstrated that choir singers' life expectancy was longer than other people who don't sing in a choir.
9) SELF CONFIDENCE: It will boost your self-confidence, you can make new friends. By rehearsing and exercising your voice with the choir, will help you to become a better singer. And performing in front of an audience gives you the most evident and physical sign of other persons' approval: the applause. All this together will help you to have better self-esteem.
10) YOU WERE BORN FOR THIS: You were born for this: God created you to worship, praise, and sing. The beauty of Christ is the cause of our songs. His glory draws worship from our hearts to our lips.
